The United States Department of Education routinely releases information on high school graduation rates across the country. The information is computed by dividing the number of students earning a diploma by the total enrollment, making note of students who transferred, emigrated or left school for other reasons. Educators and private organizations continue to do their part to elevate the number of students who graduate in four years. Through its Grad Nation initiative, America's Promise Alliance set a goal of a 90 percent graduation rate nationwide by 2015. Many people believe that the goal should be higher, encouraging a 100 percent graduation rate.
